“Winfield Middle School: What’s Best for Students!”

Dear Winfield Middle School Families,
Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! We are thrilled to begin another year filled with new opportunities, growth, and success for every student. Our staff has been working hard all summer to ensure a fantastic and productive start to the school year. Please take a moment to read through this important newsletter so you are prepared for all that’s ahead.

This Year’s Theme
“Winfield Middle School: What’s Best for Students!”
Our commitment is to make decisions and take actions that put students first in every aspect of school life.
Academic Focus: ZAP (Zeros Aren’t Permitted) Program & Chromebooks Update
This year, we are making a concerted effort to eliminate zeros and missing assignments. Our ZAP program, held during advisory, will provide students with the support and time they need to complete all their work. We believe this will help every student build good habits and achieve academic success.
In addition, we will NOT be issuing Chromebooks to students this year. Instead, each classroom will have a set of Chromebooks for use during lessons. We will also be limiting screen time as much as possible to encourage more hands-on learning, discussion, and engagement. Thank you for your understanding and support as we focus on what is best for students.
Welcome New Staff Members and Roles
We are excited to welcome several new faces and celebrate new roles for familiar staff:

  • Mrs. Bean – 8th Grade Science
  • Mrs. Ewing – 8th Grade ELA
  • Mrs. Nickrent – 7th Grade ELA
  • Mr. Foster – Special Education
  • Mr. Moesch – 6th Grade Math (new role)
  • Mrs. Moran – Special Education (new role)
  • Mr. Higginbotham - Para
  • Mrs. McCollum - Para
  • Mr. Schrader - Para

Their energy and expertise will make our team even stronger this year.
We know this newsletter contains a lot of information, but we ask that you read it thoroughly to stay informed. Thank you for your support as we partner together for a successful school year. We are looking forward to an amazing 2026-2027 at Winfield Middle School!
With excitement and anticipation,
J.C. Kime

IMPORTANT VOLUNTEER INFORMATION!

Missouri law now requires stricter fingerprint background checks for school volunteers who may be left alone with students or have access to student records. Volunteers must complete this process and be cleared by the District before working alone with students. Additionally, volunteers must sign and return required forms within 60 days of fingerprinting and complete the volunteer form within the first five days of the school year to remain active. Most volunteers, who are not left alone with students or do not access student records, must complete the Family Care Safety Registry background check, which does not require fingerprinting. All costs for background checks are the volunteer’s responsibility, and questions can be directed to Ericka Dixon at the contact information provided.
